Sustainability as Part of An Economic Development

Against the backdrop of climate change and finite resources, environmental and social considerations are becoming increasingly relevant to businesses. The BIS Bremerhaven Economic Development Company supports companies in incorporating these aspects into their business development and operations.

 Our activities include supporting companies through transformation processes, developing and planning commercial sites while taking various sustainability-related aspects into account, and supporting research and development in the field of renewable energy.

In Bremerhaven, numerous companies and projects are working on topics such as renewable energy, resource efficiency and other aspects of future-oriented economic development. We facilitate exchange and networking and provide information on relevant initiatives, services and projects.

LuneDelta

Located in direct proximity to the largest nature conservation area in the State of Bremen, the LUNEDELTA commercial area is being developed in Bremerhaven. Covering approximately 150 hectares, the site is planned to accommodate a range of commercial uses. The development of LUNEDELTA takes into account various aspects, including energy supply, water management, open-space planning and mobility. The planning has been awarded a DGNB Platinum Pre-Certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

LUNEDELTA is intended for companies from a range of sectors and is planned to provide space for established businesses, new companies locating in Bremerhaven and further commercial development.

luniq - The Start-up and Innovation Centre in LUNEDELTA Bremerhaven

Inspired by nature, planned for the future: luniq, the start-up and innovation centre in Bremerhaven. The LUNEDELTA commercial area is being developed in direct proximity to the largest nature conservation area in the State of Bremen. luniq is being developed as a centre for start-ups and young companies, offering workshop facilities, offices and shared spaces. In the planning and construction of luniq, various aspects of resource-efficient and energy-efficient building are being taken into account. Already during the planning phase, the building received a DGNB Platinum Pre-Certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

The luniq is intended to provide young and innovative companies, including businesses operating in the Green Economy sector, with space to work, connect and develop.

green Hydrogen

Green hydrogen is not only a key element of the energy transition, but also a strong driver for the economy of the maritime city. With renowned climate research institutes, an extensive network and leading sustainability research facilities, Bremerhaven is already well positioned in the field of sustainability and climate protection. Scientific expertise in the field of hydrogen has been expanded in recent years through a wide range of project experience, such as research into the use of fuel cells on ships. But this is just the beginning! The aim is to become the leading test region and competence center for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in the north.

An attractive labor market is an important prerequisite for a sustainable location. For this reason, companies in the state of Bremen are supported by various institutions in making their contribution to an attractive labor market.

INcLUSIVES BREMERHAVEN

The aim of the Inclusive Bremerhaven network is to promote a self-determined and equal life for all people in society in Bremerhaven, to convey appreciation for diversity, to remove barriers and to enable equal rights for all.

In 2019, the foundations for the network were laid at two major inclusion conferences in Bremerhaven. A total of 150 people from all walks of life and working environments developed project ideas on the topic of an inclusive city.

In the working groups, projects and campaigns on the topics of work, housing/living/neighborhoods, barriers and leisure and culture in Bremerhaven are being developed and further elaborated.
