Ports and Logistics

With the start of construction of the new port at the mouth of the Weser in 1827 and with the arrival of the American sailing ship DRAPER in 1830, not only began a new chapter in Bremen's successful port history, but also started the development of the city of Bremerhaven.

Today Bremerhaven is one of the largest European container ports and one of the largest European import and export ports for automobiles. The ports have also positioned themselves successfully and innovatively in the areas of break bulk, high & heavy, refrigerated goods and food as well as in the cruise business.

Production at the port

Heavy goods traffic is no pleasure. Overcrowded roads, traffic jams and complex transport permit procedures are part of everyday life in many places.
We would like to convince you of the advantages of having a production facility on a waterway deep enough for oceangoing vessels.

Producing at the port pays off!

Your benefits:
• Suitable industrial properties and modern production halls next to water navigable for seagoing ships
• Heavy-duty quays for shipment
• Intact transport infrastructure
• Worldwide scheduled shipping services for import and export
• Savings by shortening the transport chain
• Excellent economic development: investment and innovation promotion, location search, land brokerage and much more

Bremerhaven as a maritime logistics centre

As Europe’s fourth-largest container terminal complex with the highest volume of automobiles handled in Europe, Bremerhaven is a world-leading port. Another core competence lies in the distribution of time-critical and temperature-controlled goods.

The most modern handling facilities, ideal overseas and hinterland connections, unequalled logistical know-how, a superior network of highly specialized logistics and port service providers, coupled with excellent possibilities for training and further education – all these add up to optimum conditions.

The offshore industry, for which reliable supply and disposal through sea shipping is simply indispensable, has long been relying on Bremerhaven as both a place of production and a logistics location. The Columbus Cruise Center, one of the most modern and efficient passenger terminals for cruise ships in the world, further extends the performance spectrum of the ports.

Overview of the port services

Industrial Areas

The seaside city gives the logistics sector a great amount of leeway, industry clusters for “docking onto” and – most importantly – plenty of site potential at a prime position unequalled on the North and Baltic Sea.

In the northern part of the city, directly adjacent to the container terminal and the Überseehafen basins, there is the centre for logistics and port-related industry: the LogInPort industrial area.

With a total area of 306 hectares, it offers the best environment for logistics operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Short distances and rapid turnaround times are decisive factors for contract logistics, container stuffing and co-packing, and procurement, warehouse and distribution logistics.

Because the well-proportioned plots at attractive prices together with the modern logistics properties and office buildings that are ready for occupancy have been fine-tuned to the needs of the clients, a rapid project kick-off is possible.

Your benefits:

  • 306 ha (gross area) industrial zone for logistics and port-related services
  • Areas available immediately for new settlement and expansion in the immediate vicinity of Europe’s fourth-largest container port and Europe’s largest automobile transhipment hub
  • Numerous scheduled services throughout the world as well as direct access to the Baltic states, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia through feeder services
  • Direct access to the railway network of DB
  • A27 motorway only about 6 km away; approach road right at the site
  • Airport Bremen can be reached in approx. 45 minutes by car
  • Operation possible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • High-speed communication network (155 Mbit/sec) available
  • Development plans approved (GRZ 0.7 – 0.8 / BMZ 7.0 - 10.0)
  • Purchase price in euro/m²: 25.00 to 60.00 euro
  • Leasehold currently in euro/m² p.a. 2.10 to 4.20 euro
  • Modern office buildings and logistics real estate available immediately

Networks

The worlds of commerce, science, politics and administration all work hand in hand at the logistics location Bremerhaven. The existing networks help both resident firms and newcomers to the seaside city in finding partners, representing joint interests, identifying synergies – for example at conferences and trade fairs – or in qualifying themselves further in seminars or on study tours.
