The 'New City Centre' project has created an infrastructure appropriate to Bremerhaven's role as a regional centre. In a logical extension to this investment, the business community and the BIS Bremerhaven business development agency now wish to communicate more intensively the market presence of the 'shopping attraction by the sea'. To this end, retail and service enterprises as well as owners of real estate in the city centre have founded the CITY SKIPPER association as a basis for professional management of the city centre as an attraction. The aim is to stage a wide variety of events and promotion campaigns to efficiently enhance awareness of the city centre and the range of goods and services on offer there, not only in Bremerhaven itself, but also in the region as a whole. Events like the concerts on the church square, or the Bremerhaven Comedy Festival attract large audiences on a regular basis. Visitors are shown in eye-catching ways the plus factors of shopping in Bremerhaven. The specific combination of shopping and leisure opportunities offered by Bremerhaven is unique among cities along the North Sea coast.
